Experiments & Data


Detailed information on the experimental program, experimental matrices and set-up as well as on geochemical boundary conditions is provided here. All cooperating institutes (GRS, HZDR IRE, KIT INE) contribute to and carry out experiments providing reliable data for sound assessment and rustworthy model results.


A vast amount of thermodynamic data is available nowadays. However, literature studies revealed major gaps of internationally referenced data concerning surface processes of ubiquitously present minerals of the Northern plane of Germany (Tab. 1). To describe transport and retardation processes as realistic as possible identified gaps are closed with extensive laboratory studies where sorption data is collected (batch and column experiments). The emphasis of this study lies on long-term safety relevant elements such as Cs+, Sr2+, Ni2+, and rare earth elements (REE). Geochemical conditions are chosen according to site specific analyses (Grimm, 1982-1994).
